How to protect your hair on vacation: tips and tricks

Heat, wind, sand, salt water, chlorine, UV rays... All these elements impact our hair during vacations! Here are our best tips for protecting your hair on vacation in the sun.

Why is it important to protect your hair on vacation?

During summer, salt water, sand, chlorine, wind, and UV rays from the sun will make hair more sensitive. These elements attack the keratin that naturally occurs in our hair, which provides shine and suppleness, opening their cuticles and drying them out. Prolonged sun exposure alters the pH of the scalp and causes dandruff. Therefore, it's important to protect your hair on vacation to minimize breakage and keep it healthy.

Caring for your hair before going on vacation

Refresh your haircut

If your hair is split and breaks easily, nothing is better than cutting the ends to give them strength and vitality. The sun, chlorine, and sea salt weaken already vulnerable hair fibers.

Chemical coloring done just before leaving for vacation makes the hair fiber even more fragile. UV rays from the sun, sea salt, and chlorine open the hair cuticles and cause the coloring pigments to escape. It is preferable to color your hair at least 3 weeks before leaving and darken it by half a shade because the sun will lighten it.

Hydrate your hair

To minimize hair breakage at the end of your vacation, it is important to do hydrating treatments, preferably with aloe vera and prickly pear oil : mask, co-wash, Multi-use Care Oil. These treatments will give your hair a hydration boost and strengthen it before being exposed to the external aggressions of summer.

Wear a hat

To protect your scalp and hair from the sun's UV rays, nothing is better than wearing a hat without suffocating them. An timeless fashion accessory: hat, bob, cap, scarf... You have the choice!

Do scalp scrubs

Before and after sun exposure, use a hair scrub to eliminate all the residues accumulated on your scalp (sunscreen products, salt, sand, chlorine), detoxify and hydrate it. It will also allow for better absorption of treatments.

Apply vegetable oils

Some vegetable oils protect hair from the sun by forming a protective film around the fiber. They prevent sea and pool water from penetrating and drying out the hair. Apply your Multi-use Care Oil before sun exposure or swimming and then after swimming.

Rinse your hair after swimming

After each swim in the sea or pool, rinse your hair with clear water and, if possible, shampoo to remove all residues that dry out the hair fiber: sea salt, chlorine, sand...
