How can I protect my hair from the sun, sea, or pool?
Our summer survival guide in 4 steps !
Everyone knows that skin needs sun protection ! But did you know that you also need to protect your hair from the sun's damage ?
Indeed, summer means swimming and sunbathing. However, UV rays, salt, and chlorine can damage your hair...
Discover how to protect your hair from the sun, sea, and pool this summer !
Step 1: Understanding why protecting your hair from the sun, sea, and pool is crucial
Exposed to all these elements, your hair can become dehydrated, dry, discolored, or even brittle. Why?
Sun rays contain UVA and UVB rays that attack the outer layer of your hair fiber and its keratin. As a result, the hair cuticles open up, leading to the evaporation of moisture from your hair. With the cuticles no longer serving their protective role and the sun oxidizing the pigments, hair can also become discolored.
At the roots, the combination of sun, chlorine, and salt can cause dandruff due to a change in the pH of your scalp.
So, to prevent your hair from resembling the straw in your hat, discover how to protect it !
Étape 2 : Protect your hair from the sun before exposure
We recommend adjusting your hair care routine before your vacation : ensure your hair is well hydrated and nourished !
The best way to do this is to use our 5 Super Oils multi-use care oil as an overnight oil treatment throughout your hair, covering it completely and leaving it overnight with a shower cap. The next day, proceed with your usual washing and care routine using Shaeri products, and enjoy the results !
Additionally, prioritize a diet rich in vitamins and micronutrients such as iron and zinc for healthy hair.
Étape 3 : What protection should I use for my hair when I'm in the sun, at the beach, or in the pool?
Firstly, avoid exposure during the peak hours of the sun (from 12 PM to 4 PM).
Next, opt for your preferred protective hairstyle such as braids, ponytail, or bun, which will also prevent tangles.
Outside of the water, wear a hat, scarf, or cap to protect your scalp and avoid sunstroke.
Above all, don't use pure vegetable oil on your hair before going to the beach or pool as it can attract sunlight and potentially damage your hair fibers!
Étape 4 : A meticulous hair care routine
Rinsing after leaving the beach or pool is a crucial step that should not be missed ! It's important to remove sand, salt, or chlorine. You have two options:
- Use the nourishing shampoo with Prickly Pear to remove impurities without aggressing your hair, followed by the conditioner.
- Use our co-wash with Aloe Vera and Prickly Pear to nourish and hydrate while eliminating residues from your hair.
Finish your shower by rinsing your hair with lukewarm or cold water to close the hair cuticles and add shine.
Apply a small amount of moisturizing and detangling Haircare Spray to finish your care routine and seal in hydration.
At least once during your vacation week, pamper your hair with the intense care mask to rejuvenate it after exposure to harsh conditions!
